Summer is calling and so are your requests for exercise options, whether you want to throw yourself into fitness for the first time, or are a fitness fanatic looking for a switch up to your routine. We have picked a variety of Dorset exercise classes and activities to add variety to even the most fitness savvy of you. One session at Dorset Waterpark will burn up to 600 calories and leave you feeling very virtuous that you got activity on a ‘day of leisure’. Not too mention how much your stomach will hurt from laughing so much!
Land and Wave - SUP fitness
What better incentive could there be to get beach body ready, than actually exercising on that very same beach?! Land and Wave are making fitness fun with their Beach SUP Fitness classes, running every Monday. They will be putting you through your paces on the sand, with various activities intended to up your cardio, compound your core and build-up your balance on the boards. Sessions cost £8.50 and include equipment, boards and tuition. Sessions take place at Land & Wave Sandbanks - one of my favourite golden beach spots for spring and summer sunsets. All abilities are welcome and whether you are total novice, or a body-builder you are bound to see improvement after just a couple of sessions. Sessions are running from now until mid-September.
The rolling Purbeck Hills are simply made for mountain biking. There are few that know the riding routes of the Dorset area better than the guys and gals of Cumulus. Because of their extensive knowledge of the purbecks, they are happy to adjust the routes to ensure everyone on the session is suitably catered for. You can either simply ride and enjoy the countryside or the Cumulus Crew can put you through your paces, exploring unusual tracks and tackling various bike skills on tricky terrain while informing you about the local area. Whatever you opt for, you will be aching by the next day that’s for sure! Refreshments, lunch hampers and evening BBQs (all nutritionally optimised, of course!) always add to a great day out.
Brenscombe Outdoor Activities
Brenscombe Outdoor Activities offer a range of exhilarating activities both on land and water, but a particular favourite for an alternate workout in their ropes course in Rempstone Forest. It is difficult to say what you will work more, your cheek muscles from laughing and smiling so much, or your upper body to hoist yourself up onto the next challenge! There are several separate sections each comprising many elements such as high ropes, low ropes, zipwires and the dreaded Powerfan! For the height junkies amongst you, Brenscombe also have a bouldering wall, three climbing walls and an abseil tower to add to the ache!
The Project Climb Centre
If you try out Brenscombe’s climbing facilities and want to take it to the next level. The Project Climbing Centre in Poole is the perfect destination for you. Project Climb is a community driven indoor bouldering facility run by climbers for climbers. Their current facilities include full height bouldering walls, a top out boulder, endurance training boards and a host of training apparatus. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to advance their climbing skills at the centre with the hope that the oldies will be on hand to assist and coach the newbies! If you fancy attempting a different work-out to switch up your routine, why not try one of the Acroyoga classes run onsite? Or, even more out there but a whole lot of fun are the Ariel Skills classes - there is little that will tone your core more than hanging from a hoop, suspended in the air, desperately trying not to fall off!
Activate Trampoline Park
At Activate Trampoline Park, you can quite literally bounce the calories away! Whether on the free bounce comprising of over 30 trampolines, with a match on their bouncy dodgeball court or take your fitness to the next level with their epic Ninja Assault Course!
