Things To Do In Dorset - The Date Night Edition!

Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening for your other half or a love-in with your besties on the ultimate mate date, we’ve got the best of all of Dorset Date Nights for you…

What could be more romantic than snuggling up under the Purbeck stars to watch a classic RomCom like Notting Hill or Dirty Dancing? How about if this was set in the gorgeous surroundings of Lulworth Castle? Perhaps now best known as the home of Bestival and Camp Bestival Festivals, Lulworth Castle is a 17th Century Castle and Deer Park and acts as a stunning backdrop to your favourite motion pictures. Pack up a prosecco picnic and some lounging cushions and set-up camp for the evening. Think of it as a very British version of the classic American drive-through movies. For full listings, check out the Luna Cinema site, here.

Transport yourself back to the golden age of steam travel dining with a trip on Swanage Railway. You can treat your other half to a three course, fine dining experience on a beautiful heritage diesel whilst chugging through the picturesque Purbeck Hills on two leisurely return trips to Norden. The dress code is smart, so it gives you an opportunity to dress to impress - a vintage nod a popular choice given the surroundings! The onboard bar is very reasonably priced and the food of a very high standard, especially when considering that prices for a table of two starts at just £49.00. It is best to book reasonably far in advance to avoid disappointment - sessions are running up until 14th October this year.

Dorset Waterpark, Archery and High Ropes - If you want an activity to crank up the competition between you and your other half, why not come and visit us at Dorset Waterpark and treat your partner to a trio of trials in the form of our new onsite activities?! We are really excited to have teamed up with Brenscombe Outdoor Centre for the Summer Holidays, to offer our guests Archery sessions and High Ropes Course challenges. Which one of you will be the first to hit bullseye? Who will conquer their nerves and be the first to take a leap of faith from the high ropes? Will you be the one to complete the time trial in the quickest time? There is only one way to find out! Our last session on the waterpark is 6pm until 7pm, allowing you to make an evening of it whilst the summer sun graces us with it’s presence. Half and hour of archery will cost you £5 per person, as will each high ropes challenge - loser pays?!

Forget about the London Eye, the Bournemouth Big Wheel is where it’s at this summer. Reminiscent of Sandy and Danny and their summer lovin’, you can treat your guy or doll to a spin in the seafront situation ferris wheel for the ultimate romantic gesture. With views over Bournemouth beach and the lower gardens, there is plenty to look at if you’re bored of staring lovingly into each other’s eyes! You can always keep it kitsch with a trip to the arcade afterwards for some fun on the 2p or grabber machines, and top the evening off with a paper bag full of chips from Harry Ramsden’s as you walk arm in arm down the promenade - it’s the stuff RomComs are made of!

The humble cinema, the fortress of daters worldwide, since dating began! However, if you’re looking for a Dorset date night on a budget, then you would be well advised to head to the Plaza Cinema in Dorchester. The Plaza Cinema proves why independent cinemas are fantastic, by still offering tickets at the bargain price of £2.50!! You can afford to splurge on plenty of pick’n’mix when ticket prices are quite so low - what’s not to love about that?! To stick with the Dorset theme, why not head and watch this summer’s number one blockbuster ‘Dunkirk’, featuring scenes filmed on location in our very own Weymouth and Swanage Railway Station. For full listings, take a peek at their site, here.
