Head to the beach!

Visit the beaches of Dorset

We’re lucky enough to have some fantastic beaches here in the South West, particularly in Dorset. For a real treat (plus a free day out) head over to Studland beach. Studland beach, on the Purbeck coastline, is four miles of wonderful sandy beaches by the famous Old Harry’s rocks.

Visit the iconic Durdle Door

Durdle Door in Dorset

Probably one of the most photographed natural wonders of Dorset is the Durdle Door arch. This natural limestone arch is part of the Lulworth estate and its name is thought to derive from the old English meaning ‘bore’ or ‘drill’. For a great day out on a budget, head over to Durdle Door.

Maiden Castle is the largest iron age fort in Europe. It was occupied as far back as 6000 years ago and in its time it protected 100s of residents. In AD43 the hill fort was taken over by the Romans and its former residents displayed. While the hill fort is free to visit it is not suitable for wheelchair access or those with difficulties walking. Maiden Castle makes a great budget day out for families in Dorset.
